Our tour will start at our hotel, Hotel Jedermann, at noon. After checking in, we will catch lunch at Munich's open-air Viktualienmarkt and spend the afternoon with a detailed historical walking tour, but with lots of refreshment stops. After a hearty Bavarian dinner, we'll send you off to bed a little earlier than normal so you can rest up for the big day tomorrow!
It will be an early morning as we head out to witness the traditional raising of the Maibaum. Everyone is in their Tracht and the ladies of the village have baked cakes for sale. With any luck, we'll get to see a traditional band and sip on some Helles as we watch the local men raise the giant white & blue pole in their village.
In the evening, we head to Frühlingsfest and have reserved seats at BayernLand Festhalle. Another band and tasty Augustiner Beer. Don't worry, you're hotel is just a stone's thrown away!
The city of Mozart beckons for a visit! 2 hours away on the train, we'll show you some of the locations from the Sound of Music as well as Mirabell Palace and the Old Town. On top of the history, Salzburg offers great food and drink: Join me at Sporer for some homemade Schnapps, Fürst for the best Mozart Balls, or the Hotel Sacher for torte and coffee. For dinner, we'll enjoy a wonderful beer hall, the Augustiner Bräustübl zu Mülln - grab a stein off the shelf, rinse it out yourself and have it filled with fresh beer - an authentic experience!
Atfer breakfast at the hotel we make the pilgrimage to the "Holy Mountain." Many Bavarians say that if you had just one day to experience Bavaria, you should spend it at Kloster Andechs. This historical site, still run by Benedictine Monks, offers art, architecture, and spiritual refreshment. The Bräustuberl offers more earthly refreshments - the Doppelbock beer is world-famous and many come from miles around to eat the Schweinehaxe. Its hard to explain why Andechs is so special, but you are sure to agree that it is a very special place.
In the evening we are back in Munich at the famous Weisses Brauhaus downtwon. Featuring the first privately produced Weissbier, this classic bavarian Wirtshaus is still maintained by the Schneider family. Will you agree that the Orginal Tap 7 is the world's best Weissbier?
You have several options today - choose what you would most like to do with your day:
1. Neuschwanstein Castle: Book a trip to the royal castle of Neuschwanstein, thought to be the inspiration of Walt Disney. Explore the mysterious death of Ludwig II as you marvel at his fantasy filled castle nestled by the Alps. This one can be a bit physical challenging as you climb the hill and many stairs in the castle.
2. Dachau: Book a trip to visit this infamous concentration camp.
3. Hiking with Scott: Take a ride to Garmisch with Scott, weather permitting, and ride up the mountainside and hike down through the Partnachklamm slot canyon. Beautiful and unique mountain views!
Morning departure for Munich airport. We will assist you in reaching the airport in time for your flight (MVV Ticket not included). Join in for that last Weisswurst and Weissbier at the Airbräu - right at the airport. (I love this country!) If you leave a little later, we can hit the Weisses Brauhaus one last time... Also, feel free to ask me about extending your stay in Bavaria!
