Germany is commonly identified as the home of Christmas tradition. Recognizing this perception, BayernTrips has built a small group tour around the Christmas Markets of Bavaria to celebrate these German traditions.

The Christmas Markets stretch across the German speaking countries and, now, throughout the world. We, however, think the Bavarian markets are the best. For the past four years, Vonia has led our tour to these spectacular markets.

On Saturday morning, Vonia will greet our guests at the Munich airport as they arrive in Germany. After the group is assembled, a small bus will transport the guests and their luggage to Bamberg. Here they will stay at the Hotel Brudermühle. This small little boutique hotel lies directly on the Regnitz River, directly next to the Old City Hall, built on an island in the middle of the water.

Day 1 is always a tough day for arriving guests due to the jet lag and lack of rest. The super soft German Featherbeds in the hotel and the rush of the river drown offer a great atmosphere for a deep sleep. Before rushing off to bed, Vonia will offer a stroll through the heart of Bamberg’s market before dinner. Bamberg is famous for being the Krippenstadt – the city of the Mangers. There are so many that the City of Bamberg actually offers organized tours so that tourist can see all the of the major ones.

Bamberg in the winter is an especially vibrant scene. Known as the “Franconian Rome,” the city is also built on seven hills and is historically the only Catholic city surrounded by a sea of Protestants. On top of its religius and historical importance, Bamberg is a treat for beer and wine enthusiasts. Even in the heart of Franconian Wine Country, Bamberg again is an island of sanctuary for beer drinkers: It sports 9 breweries for a population of some 70,000.

Offering a wide variety of high quality beer styles ranging from unfiltered Lager, to Pilsner, to Brown beer, black beer and all the way to Smoked beer from Schlenkerla, the wide choice of selection is truly amazing.

But Vonia and her group of shoppers have a special treat for dinner. The hotel is preparing a special meal fo Maultaschen - a dish originating from Swabia. We think these German-style “Raviolis” are a nice light choice before turning in early.
