Combining History, Culture and Bavaria's best food and beer, you will travel to the region's most special Beer gardens in a small group of less than 15 guests! And, two festivals on tap: Anna Fest in Forchheim and the unusual Fischerstechen in Ulm (jousting on water!)
This trip represents all the things I love to do in Bavaria. Come along and share the fun! Visit Bavaria during the summer and enjoy our wonderful pace of life. We will explore the history and culture and combine this with memorable food & drink. OUr beer gardens are an important slice of life here and I'll introduce you to all my favorites!. With three nights in Bamberg, you'll experience a baroque city boasting a tremendous selection of various beer styles (like Rauchbier) and we plan a visit to the Anna Fest in nearby Forchheim. This outdoor fest takes place in the cool shade of the chestnut trees on a small hill which boast an incredible amount of beer cellars carved into the hillside. Every four years, Ulm holds its "Fischerstechen" Tournament and you'll also get to experience this!
Price includes: Hotel, Breakfast daily, ground transportation, tours as listed

Schedule your flight to arrive rearly (best by 11:00 AM) and catch the train downtown to meet us at our Hotel, Hotel Jedermann. Enjoy the Glockenspiel, the towers of the Frauenkirche, and our open air market, the Viktualienmarkt. As we walk, we discuss Munich's rich history and the distinctive personalities who have lived in the Bavarian capital city of Munich. In the evening, we'll have dinner in a traditional biergarten.
After breakfast we catch the train to Ulm. Here we experience a most unusual festival: Fischerstechen. With all the action on the Danube River, two small boats manned with three standing oarsmen each paddle rapidly towards one another, On the back of each "Zille" is a jouster dressed as a famous Ulmer. Using a long pole, they try to knock each other off into the water. Played out over the course of several hours, it's non-stop action!
Afterwards we'll grab a few Gold Ochsen beers at the local festival held in the fisherman's area before heading back to Munich.
Sleep in a bit and catch breakfast downstairs. Today, we visit the Englischer garten and several of its Biergärten: The Chinese Tower with its some 6,000 seats and the 2,500 seated Seehaus. Located on the edge of a small lake, we enjoy the Paulaner beer while watching the ducks and geese frolick. Of course you'll also learn abotu the history of the garden and how it was designed by an American in 1789. A quick stop to see the surfers is also planned along the way.
Next up, we head to the Löwenbräukeller for a quick stop before walking past the Spaten brewery on our way to close out the evening at the Augustiner Keller biergarten.
The city of Mozart beckons! 2 hours away on the train, we'll show you some of the locations from the Sound of Music as well as Mirabell Palace and the Old Town. On top of the history, Salzburg offers great food and drink: Join me at Sporer for some homemade Schnapps, Fürst for the best Mozart Balls, Bosna Grill for some amazing street food or the Hotel Sacher for torte and coffee. For dinner, we'll enjoy a wonderful beer hall, the Augustiner Bräustübl zu Mülln - grab a stein off the shelf, rinse it out yourself and have it filled with fresh beer - an authentic experience! (If the weather is good, I'll take those willing on a nice hike with beautiful visits of the sourrounding mountains.
We pilgrimage to the "Holy Mountain" today. Many Bavarians say if you had just one day to experience Bavaria, you should spend it at Kloster Andechs. This historical site, still run by Benedictine Monks, offers art, architecture, and spiritual refreshment. The Bräustuberl offers more earthly refreshments - the Doppelbock beer is world-famous and many come from miles around to eat the Schweinehaxe. Its hard to explain why Andechs is so special, but you are sure to agree that there's something to it!
In the afternoon, we may take a boat ride on Lake Starnberg or head back to Munich with a stop at the biggest Biergarten - Hirschgarten with space for 8,000 thirsty people!
Boarding the fast and sleek ICE train, it's about 90 minutes to Bamberg. We walk just over 1 km to our lodging - not a hotel, but a brewery with rooms upstairs! We'll take a quick tour of this small brewery, Fässla, before we take a long walk through this beautiful, baroque city. We visit the Bamberg Cathedral and its famous "Bamberg Rider" and Cathedral Square before visiting the heart of the city. Virtually untouched in WWII, Bamberg maintains its status as an UNESCO World Heritage City. As the tour progress, we’ll make several stops at some of Bamberg’s most cherished breweries: Mahr's , Keesman, Spezial, Greifenklau, Klosterbraeu, and Ambräusianum . This evening's dinner features the famous Bamberg Stuffed Onion at Schlenkerla. Enjoy with Bamberg's world famous Rauchbier for a culinary treat! For the beer aficionado, this is a banner day!
The clinking of glass bottles and the smell of beer being brewed wakes you this morning. Downstairs a simple breakfast awaits - so does the "magic window" where you can induldge in a breakfast beer if you wish.
Later we venture about 20 minutes on the train to the city of Forchheim. After walking through the old town, we make our way to the Kellerwald where the city' beer supply is kept. With 23 beer cellars located on this tree covered forest, this is where Forchheim celebrates their "Anna Fest." In addition to the beer on offer form small, independently owned breweries, there is all kinds of music and food. The locals will turn out in the evening and we'll enjoy this unique atmosphere with them!
Back on the sleek ICE to Munich, we'll drop our luggage back at Hotel Jedermann and finish off our tour of Munich beer gardens - Schlosswirtschaft, Rosengarden, Augustiner Schützengarten, etc. We'll see how it goes! And perhaps we'll dive in to the Muncih craft beer scence with a stop at Tilman's Frisches Bier, Gregor's HopDog, or Camba Bavaria's TapHouse.
Morning departure for Munich airport. We will assist you in reaching the airport in time for your flight (MVV Ticket not included). Join in for that last Weisswurst and Weissbier at the Airbräu - right at the airport. (I love this country!) If you leave a little later, we can hit the Weisses Brauhaus one last time... Also, feel free to ask me about extending your stay in Munich and we'll help you book a tour to the Royal Castle of Neuschwanstein.
