New Tent at Oktoberfest 2010

In a nod to the 200th Anniversary of Oktoberfest, a new area is planned this year at Oktoberfest. Located at the far south end of the Wiesn, it requires a € 4.00 per person admission fee. As in 1810's original wedding celebration of Ludwig and Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen, horse racing will be featured. Racing, weather dependent, will be highlighted twice a day with a grandstand accommodating 1,200 spectators at a time.

Beyond that historically accurate amusement rides while the  Herzkasperl-Zelt features Bavarian Cabaret, Folk music, and traditional dance. In the Museumszelt, visitors can learn about the history of the Oktoberfest from the wedding celebration of the Crown Prince until today.

Both BayernTrips groups will be treated to reserved tables in the early evening inside the Historische Festzelt. The tent will seat 3,500 inside and another 3,000 in the outdoor biergarten.  You won’t hear any “Country Roads” or “Summer of ’69? here – it’s just traditional music from the Musikkapelle Grünbauer.

To top it off, a specially brewed Anniversary beer is tapped from wooden kegs and  served in ceramic steins. This “Spezialbier”  ist amber colored and has a full-bodied maltiness. Each of the 6 Munich breweries participated in the collaboration: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner und Spatenbräu all had an active hand in the development.

Our first group, the Connoisseur’s, will be treated to dinner there:

  • Radish plate with buttered soft pretzels
  • 2 large roasted Bratwurst on top of Sauerkraut
  • a Bavarian doughnut with cranberries
  • 1 Liter Jubiläums-Oktoberfestbier vom Holzfass

If you think Oktoberfest is just a beer bash, you are completely missing the intricacies of the event. The history and the culture of this Volksfest is legendary, but most tourists miss it entirely. With BayernTrips, you’ll experience all aspects of this event – the historical and the modern. And, true to form, BayernTrips under promises and over delivers. We promised 2 reserved visits to the Wiesn – our Connoisseurs will have three visits and Best of Bavaria will have five!
